Routes to REGUA
From Rio de Janeiro - Ponte Rio-Niterói (RJ) (A) to the Ecological Reserve of Guapiaçu (B)
Take the Rio-Niterói Bridge and the exit towards São Gonçalo, Alcântara and Região dos Lagos (BR-101). Follow this road for about 40 kilometres until taking exit 283 signed to the BR-116 João Goulart highway/Itaboraí/Nova Friburgo. Stay in this lane for about 2 kilometers until you turn right onto Presidente João Goulart highway. Once on the BR-116, drive for approximately 35 kilometers until you come across the Ambev Factory and further on a highway police patrol post. Turn left and follow RJ-122 for approximately 3km until you reach an intersection (there is a fixed radar, a school on the right and a gas station on the left), where the driver should turn right onto an asphalted road signed Funchal/Guapiaçu). Continue on this road for 11km until a fork with a bar on the right (Bar da Sandra) and signs pointing to Guapiaçu, Matumbo and REGUA.
At this point, turn left and after 500m cross the bridge over the Guapiaçu River and continue for another 300m until a sharp curve, turning left. Then continue for approximately 450m until crossing a small bridge, turning to your right and through a gate that gives access to REGUA. Continue along the drive and you will soon see the REGUA headquarters on your right and our research and volunteer accommodation where you should find a member of staff who will be able to help you. If you are booked to stay in the Lodge continue along this road up a small hill for another 400m you will reach the Lodge.
From Cachoeiras De Macacu Route (A) to REGUA (B)
Leaving the center of the city of Cachoeiras de Macacu towards Rio de Janeiro on the BR-116, the driver should travel approximately 7km until reaching a fork (before a road police patrol post and also close to the Ambev Factory), where he should take the right lane, RJ-122 (Estr. Rio Friburgo).
Follow RJ-122 for approximately 3km until you reach an intersection (there is a fixed radar, a school on the right and a gas station on the left, where you should turn right on to an asphalted road signed Funchal/Guapiaçu) and continue on this road for 11km until a fork with a bar on the right (Bar da Sandra) and signs pointing to Guapiaçu, Matumbo and REGUA.
