The Lodge
The lodge opened in 2004 and has ten suites. With a relaxed, informal atmosphere our aim is to provide high quality accommodation for guests who want to discover the Atlantic Forest. We cater for birdwatchers, those keen to explore wildlife in their natural surroundings and those enjoy walking in our beautiful forests. We are situated amidst stunning scenery with native and restored forest, wetlands and the dramatic backdrop of the Serra dos Órgãos mountains, part of the larger mountain complex called Serra do Mar in south-eastern Brazil.
Guests have full access to our trails at both low and high altitude humid forest and the reserve wetlands. The wetlands alone have over 220 birds species with many butterfly, dragonfly and damselfly species. In addition we offer day excursions to other areas in the Atlantic Forest. looking for bird species not found in REGUA. This also gives our guests an opportunity to see more of the surrounding area.
The lodge is non-profit and all income generated goes towards our conservation work.

The lodge is very well equipped, with air-conditioned rooms, a spacious and comfortable living room, a large dining room, an extensive library on the fauna and flora of Brazil, a wide variety of books and magazines on birds, with a focus on South America. We also have check lists available with the birds found at REGUA, leaflets of trails, and the butterflies and moths you could see here. Our swimming pool provides a way to relax in the heat of the day. Hot water is provided from a solar heating system and there is Wi-Fi in the public areas.

All accommodation is full board with breakfast, lunch and dinner included. All meals are freshly prepared by our cooks using local ingredients. We can cater for a variety of dietary needs (please advise when booking).
Hot meals are served for lunch but we can provide a packed lunch for those taking a day walk. Early breakfast is available for birders and guests who wish to make an early start to their day.
At 6:30 pm, Brazilian caipirinha is served for our guests.
The lodge can accommodate up to 18 people in ten rooms: six doubles, two twins and two singles.
Standard rooms:
All rooms have private bathrooms, air conditioning and screened windows to keep insects out. All rooms are cleaned daily and include:
Bed linen and towels;
Wardrobe or space to hang clothes;
Shower with hot water (solar heating);
Safety deposit box (please bring your own travel padlock to secure)

Premier Rooms:
In addition to the standard room options, there are three premier rooms (rooms 1 and 2 on the second floor and room 10 on the ground floor), they have all the facilities of our standard rooms but are larger than the other rooms, with private balcony and fantastic views.
The lodge also has a small single room available for guides or drivers when needed.

Garden
Our beautifully maintained gardens provide excellent birding and photography opportunities from the veranda and belvedere. Fruit feeders attract noisy groups of euphonias, chlorophonias and tanagers including Brazilian, Flame-crested, Golden-chevroned, Burnished-buff and Yellow-backed.
On the hummingbird feeders Swallow-tailed Hummingbirds chase off Rufous-breasted Hermits, Reddish Hermits, White-chinned Sapphires, Black Jacobins, Violet-capped Woodnymphs and Glittering-throated Emeralds.
Around the garden, the rare Black-legged Dacnis, Rusty-margined Guan, Swallow Tanager, Maroon-bellied Parakeet, Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, Rufous-thighed Kite, Channel-billed Toucan, Blond-crested Woodpecker, Chestnut-backed Antshrike and Long-billed Wren are among the wide variety of birds often encountered.
At night Tawny-browed Owl, Tropical Screech-Owl and Pauraque may be seen, and mammalsincluding Paca, Nine-banded Armadillo and the occasional Crab-eating Fox also visit the garden when all is quiet.
